The Day Albert’s House Went Quiet

The Day Albert's House Went Quiet.

When my mum passed away last year in June, I felt all the emotions a daughter could feel when one loses a parent. To find closure and to process my pain, I set out to capture beautiful memories I shared with my mum.

Try as I may, I couldn’t think of her directly because of the pain of losing her and all I was able to remember and recognise was the reflections of love that I saw watching her counsel and guide many women, families and children who would often come to her for help.

She taught me how to live. Some of those life lessons have seen me through various challenges in life. A child needs adults who love them enough to teach, train and nurture them confidently in the right way. Their future depends on this. So I decided to write my loss by recounting lessons I learnt from my mom in prose.

My first children storybook is about a little boy who has grown up believing his interesting family dynamic was normal but it was still his candid observations that brought about a well-needed change in the family. Though he struggled to understand it at first it all made sense once his parents took the lead and guided him through it.

Albert’s story is just a conversation starter but I hope and pray that as adults we take the time to make the changes we need to create an environment that our kids can learn and thrive positively in.
